Christmas = gifts + turkey. No?

1 Dec

Today is the first day of Advent and the run-up to Christmas is now officially upon us. Love it or loathe it, we can all expect the next twenty five days to be filled with tinsel and trees, carols, the nativity, Macaulay Culkin, Cliff Richard, chocolate log, minced pies, presents and a big juicy turkey!!!!

Not so for two of our ‘Give it Uppers’, Josie and Dan, who have taken on particularly testing pledges during this festive season…

Josie has chosen to give up Christmas presents as part of the ‘Give it up’ campaign. Instead, she will ask her loved ones to sponsor her by visiting her JustGiving page to make their donation. Watch this video clip to hear the reasons behind Josie’s pledge:

Dan is a man who loves his meat.

“On Christmas day I LOVE the little ‘pigs-in-blanket’, the slices of turkey with cranberry sauce, home-made sausage rolls, stuffing, ham and all the trimmings. And then back for more on Boxing Day with a cold buffet of the left-overs, yes please!”

So what would cause a man like Dan to give up MEAT for 125 days, spanning the Christmas period and beyond??

Dan says, “The work of One25 is great, really valuable, giving the women a chance many wouldn’t give them. I usually poke fun at veggies so giving up meat is a big deal and gives me a chance to raise awareness of the work of One25. The charity has been really consistent and faithful to the service users for years. Brilliant!”

Thanks Dan, and good luck!
